This album is excellent !
author: Theodore Craighead
At first glance, this musical collection could appear to be a mere Christmas album featuring such titles as "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "Come Let’s Adore Him", and "New Year’s Wish". Moreover, this album is also subtitled “a holiday music celebration”. However, In the Spirit is a well-round album that highlights messages that should be heard all year long. In fact, praising and worshipping the Lord at all times seems to be the overall theme of this musical assortment. The introductory track, “Come Let’s Adore Him” is a fine, up-beat example of contemporary gospel music that immediately makes the listener want to sing and hum along. The above mentioned “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” is a surprisingly fresh new version of this carol and will definitely give the audience a whole new approach for enjoying this classic hymn. Lyrically speaking, all songs contained in this collection are truly inspired but one title in particular, “The Meeting”, warrants being listened to with the most attentive of ears as it imparts a much-needed message of spiritual peace and hope. In fact, what I appreciated most about this album is the sublime blend of traditional and contemporary sounds that are ingeniously produced by Michael Terry and beautifully sung by his musical companions. From the Caribbean inspired rhythms of “ De-o (In Excelsis) to the exquisite Sunday-morning melodies of “He Came” and “We Came to Praise You”, In the Spirit is a beautifully crafted album that will definitely appeal to every lover of gospel music.
