ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This CD is great for older family members and friends who grew-up in the Baptist South way back when. It is also great to show our younger Christians how church use to sound back in the day. The Primitive Baptist is very strict in its traditions and it does not allow the use of any form of musical instrumentation or equipment that adds to its worship; they strictly maintain their principles. I was fortunate in that I was allowed to record their service. My instructions were clear, “do not interfere with the service in any way;” I was tucked away in a corner near some coats. I entered the old white church, the kind that most of us see on the side of the road in the country south, and recorded the jubilee that filled the air. No amps, speakers of mixing consoles were used in this recording. No studio treatments, other than EQ, compression and limiting, were used on this recording. I used my digital hard-disk recorder to record the services and I strategically placed three microphones to create a stereo field. I had to tape down any cables because the members and congregation would come to the center floor and participate in the rocking that took place. To my surprise and to the surprise of the church members, the recordings captured every nuance of the service, which provides a unique ambiance that gives the illusion of actually sitting in the church when listening to the CD. The feel is kind of like folk religion; really old school. You can hear everything from chatter, coins rattling, distinctive voices, foot stumps, and door slams. If you listen closely to the first track, you can hear a truck pass by on the road outside of the church. I’ve received great reviews from all who have listened to these tracks. Many say that this sound goes straight to their heart and touches them in a special way. The recordings really capture the feel from the olden days, which is hard to find and recreate in today’s churches. I have learned that there is a market all over the world for this unique religious sound and I decided to make it available to everyone.
