Founded in the badlands of South Surrey in 1978 by lead singer / blues harp whiz Mud Bay Slim (a.k.a. Harold Arnold), the band’s hard-edged, high-voltage approach immediately distinguished them in the Vancouver R&B scene. And throughout the years they have steadfastly maintained their distinctive style, playing the blues their way: unconventionally, uncompromisingly and unapologetically. The album features horns by Dave and Norm Quinn and a track arranged and played by Boney Fields, funky horn man now living in France.
A discerning listen to their 2007 CD release, Death, Taxes and the Mud Bay Blues Band (Three Things That Won‘t Go Away) reveals influences spanning the depth and breadth of the idiom informing their original compositions--classic Chicago blues, country blues, zydeco, barrelhouse, boogie… Widely disparate elements somehow find space inside their unique sound, all interpreted and incorporated the Mud Bay way.
