Founded in December of 2000, Mudfish consists of six individuals with one common goal: blending the old with the new to bring a style of music that can simply be interpreted as "original." Rooted in a foundation of rock and funk, with a splash of jazz and a touch of blues, Mudfish is constantly pushing the envelope to create music that is fresh and original.
Jason Lewis, the lead vocalist of Mudfish, with his powerful, emotionally charged voice and lively stage presence is the spirit of the band. The artist, inspired by singers such as Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley and Robert Plant, studies music under the watchful eye of famed gospel singer Ms. Georgia Louis.
The essence of Mudfish is based in their rock solid rhythm section. Inspired by the styles of Carter Beauford, Tito Puente, and John Bonham, drummer Chris Sagnella returned to Mudfish in 2003, after pursuing various other musical projects.
Growing up in various parts of the country afforded percussionist Todd Fowler the opportunity to be exposed to many different cultures and musical traditions, which have influenced his playing and songwriting abilities. Today, Todd's musical focus is mainly congas and bongos with the occasional bells and whistles.
Holdin' down the low end, bass player Chris Muir brings to Mudfish (along with his wacky persona) 18 plus years of musical experience influenced by virtuosos, such as Victor Wooten and Les Claypool, to name just a couple.
Reminiscent of a time when music was creative and constantly evolving, guitarist Marc "5string" Russo strums his Fender guitar with a ferocity that pushes the limit and is virtually unmatched.
The latest addition to the band is professional musician Pierre Guertin on the tenor saxophone. With his sweet melodies and jazzy licks, Pierre brings a new color to this already vibrant palate of orginial music.
Mudfish original style of music, full of funky grooves, lingers in your head long after a live performance is finished.
