The collection is varied – chamber folk from Left With Pictures, rumbling twang from Tom Hatred, eerie pop from the hosts themselves – but there is a common spirit running through the whole record. Imaginative, independent, and with a healthy disregard for the normal course of things, the artists featured on ‘Pick Your Own’ are some of the UK’s most exciting prospects.
The Mules Present \'Pick Your Own’ was a series of live shows designed to run for just a month, showcasing the band\'s brand of chaotic, multi-layered rural punk alongside like-minded artists. Some of these artists were friends, some were found elsewhere, but all were picked because the band admired the music. It soon became apparent that the free nights were attracting an enthusiastic and open minded crowd.
By the end of July 2007, people had bustled in from the rain to witness fantastic intimate sets from emerging acts like Napoleon iiird, Noah and The Whale, Johnny Flynn, School Of Language (David Brewis of Field Music) Emmy The Great, Jonquil and Eugene McGuinness.
Such was the success of the night that Kartel and The Mules are releasing a compilation of new and exclusive songs from some of the performers.
