Mummification, dwellers of the northern forests of California.. A very talented, insanely technical sophisticate of the death/grind genre. Their release "Runes of Blood" is a definite display of their complexity, with a clearly thrashing grind influence showing through, which meets the hammering melody of the guitar and the precise and rapid pace of the off-time drum signatures uniquely. The recording is of a good production, with a nice crisp drum sound, crunchy tone, and a smooth low rumble to the bass. The vocals are a guttural masterpeice, with exception to the occasional monotonous lyric pattern, and they compliment the overall brutality of this production. With tracks such as "Gutter Dentistry," "When Steel Meets Flesh," and a kick ass deathgrind cover of Death's "Zombie Ritual," the songs vary quite drastically in length and form. I highly recommend this album to any extreme metal fan. Mummification is freshly signed to a record label so make sure to lookout for some upcoming promotions!!
