A collage of sounds and styles-maximum R&B grooves with rock guitar, fresh melodies with classic rock'n'roll ambiance-THE GROOVE is Pete Munday at his best. Pete says, "I wanted to mix different styles of songs together on one album: acoustic songs, rockin' pop, country, and up-tempo love ballads."
Munday has never been comfortable with borders, limitations, or affiliating himself with a musical movement. He just does what comes naturally, writing and performing hooky pop-rock songs that pack an emotional wallop. From relationships ("Breakdown Girl") to the journey to becoming a better man ("Consequence Song"), Pete writes about what comes to mind at any given time and place, initially writing straight from the heart. He started writing songs during high school in Washington state, when the grunge era was blossoming. His first efforts were simple, folky love songs-out of step with grunge, but they felt true to him, and he continued to develop musically along more melodic lines. Pete's influences have always been timeless songwriters, the artists and bands that could capture a feeling in a few chords. As a child, his musical heroes included Buddy Holly, Sam Cooke and The Beatles; over time he began to admire The Who, AC/DC, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, U2, Led Zeppelin, The Police and The Rolling Stones, among others.
Growing up was anything but ordinary, as his father was a preacher and police officer. Pete grew up singing in church every Sunday and traveling with his missionary family -from Cyprus to Louisiana, Greece to Tennessee, Washington to Idaho, and finally to California. Pete has had the opportunity to travel independently as an artist as well, touring South Africa for two months, as well as Tokyo, Japan. Returning to Los Angeles, Pete started his own record label, Different Records, and released his debut album driving with no mirrors in April of 2000.
His next Different Records release was the highly acclaimed Hoopla Jimmy. After touring for a year, Pete plunged into the studio and recorded the long awaited album: THE GROOVE. A fascinating mix of old and new creates the style of this recording: a fresh take on classic rock; inventive songwriting blending new and vintage sounds. This is all summed up best by a listen to the title track "The Groove". Pete enlisted Andy Ackland (The Eagles, Bob Dylan) to mix the song "Goodbye Beautiful" as well as mastering the album. The album features Ray Artis (Dakota Moon) playing bass and David Leach (Ben Harper) playing percussion on "Consequence Song". The result is Munday's fiercest, fullest music-the vocals crisp and immediate, the instrumentation in the pocket and full of heart.
The live show is an electrifying experience, running the gamut from full force rock to Pete performing solo/acoustic. Bassist Ray Artis plays bass with precision and style that will make your head bob. Josh Ketchmark delivers melodic and soulful guitar. Sam Jones completes the rhythm section with drums that are the heart beat of this dynamic band. The band is currently touring to promote THE GROOVE; combining the essence and vitality of rock n' roll with the integrity of classic pop songs.

The Groove

The songs are addicting and I agree... why isn\'t Pete Munday all over the radio! Their loss is our gain. I\'m going to try and get radio airplay in Houston Texas for these songs and Pete Munday.

Pete Munday's Groove IS the groove
author: Sharon Byrne - Freelance Writer
This latest release from energetic and exciting Munday open with the funky and uber post-modern "Breakdown Girl", with its crashing chords, and then moves to the more mellow and self-reflexive "On Time". I love "Goin' Home" - sends out that vibe that reflects the longing we all feel at times to return to something that makes sense in our crazy lives, whether that's a fondly remembered home locale, or a more soul-sense of home within ourselves. But then we amble unsuspectingly into "Prelude" which is a sultry yet mercurial teaser of a come-hither, and deftly slide into my all-time fave PM song "Goodbye Beautiful". Even my small daughter can't get enough of this song and demands track 5 every time we get in the car. Everyone seems to agree that this is THE hit off this album. It builds and delivers with resounding momentum, U2-reminiscient chords, and lyrics that evoke (for me) Gross Pointe Blank speed and wit in delivery, but pour out total soul longing for love briefly discovered, yet still unconsummated. It totally grabs hold of you by the collar and yanks you close. You can almost feel a breathy, passionate kiss about to happen. This song makes all my women friends feel like they'd give anything to be the 'Beautiful' he can't wait to get back to. I highly recommend it to men as THE song to play the woman who's more than a little ticked off at you. This album goes downs smooth and easy, but with enough jolts and thumps to make you feel like you've had a nice leisurely Satuday afternoon drive... in a screaming red corvette. An all-around incredible album which closes with the urban-rhythmic pronouncement that this is, indeed, the Groove.

Who said Rock and Roll is Dead?
author: William Benoit - GRPublication
[the following was published in GRPublication, Philadelphia PA, Oct. 2005]
Ah, music! It’s everywhere. And with the digital era in full swing, it’s downloaded and exchanged in mass quantities. Yet, the search for respectable and new music continues as many talented artists slip through the cracks unnoticed and unsung. (Perhaps it’s because the thumping of electronic drums and whining of keyboard loops drown everything worth listening to out?)
But on the bright side, coming across an album as true to rock and roll as The Groove, it makes the search all the more sweet. Luckily for us, Pete Munday is not a newcomer to the music scene and his music is readily available for those questing for sweet melodies, loud and clean guitars and poetic lyrics. The Groove is a true homage to the spirit of Rock and Roll. And through The Groove, it lives on! For more information, visit www.petemunday.com.

This is a CD of lovely songs; it is well worth buying.
author: Heidi Mastrogiovanni
The songs on this CD are lovely, as is Pete Munday's voice. I'm sure you will enjoy this CD tremendously, as I do. Unless you have terrible taste, which I doubt.
