Munkafust keeps the van wheels moving forward. They're riding in a rental now, saving up the money to replace their last van, "Eddie", that caught fire and burned up on the highway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. They rescued their guitars and amps before Eddie blew like a Van Damme prop. They thumbed down a ride, made it to their gig in San Francisco and rocked their devoted fans until closing time. By dawn, Eddie's name had been eulogized by band members over countless beers, and the incident was yet another piece of their near perfect Indie Rock resume.
Munkafust was told by "the suits" to change their name. They yawned. They were a "jam band" before the classification existed. However, they refused to make the same record over and over and continued to evolve their sound. A couple of years ago, Munkafust caught a big break and was added to the Candlebox tour. But, personality conflicts ruptured the band. After developing their new line-up, they went back into their van (Eddie), playing over 1000 gigs and making fans everywhere. As a result, Munkafust SoundScanned 16,000 copies of their four indie CD's. All of their accomplishments went undetected by major labels; Munkafust had no manager pimping and no lawyer hustling. Their story is of an indie band writing, recording and playing gigs. Then, in the fall of 1999, their notoriety gained the attention of Pinch Hit Records who immediately signed the band.
Munkafust's burning hot new release, Down for Days, features ten scorching modern rock songs with a touch of jam band flare. The title track gives you a good feel of why Evan Brau's fans speak reverently of his songwriting and singing. The bands' sound is reminiscent of Blind Melon and Third Eye Blind but maintains a blinding uniqueness all it's own. Checkout Forgiveness to taste the fiery guitar work of Brau and Tony Gray. Bank Account, a sarcastic ode to materialism, features Jens Funke's full throttle bass playing. Yeah Yo, with it's vintage Pacino/Scarface rap, showcases drummer Matt Rhimer's sledgehammer beats and tasty fills. Down for Days was produced and recorded by Rob Jacobs (U2/Henley), Muddy Dutton (Brian Jonestown Massacre) and David Lebental (Placebo Royale) in Los Angeles. Munkafust will be touring extensively in support of Down For Days. "Our plan is simple" says Brau, "keep the van wheels moving forward."
