Album Notes

Beginning in 1999, murder mystery is indie-rock through and through. A blend of influences from The Fall, Pavement, Sebadoh, and the Velvet Underground (from where the group got its name) form a sound creation that barrels through with impassioned delivery.

The band's roots lie in Mount Pleasant, Michigan where in 1999 they began. The band recorded several EPs and performed before taking off to Detroit in 2003. The bands new sound was shaped more heavily by classic rock groups and the blues. Drawing prominently from Detroit acts like the MC5 and Mitch Ryder as well as the indie rock realm. Upon relocation, the group signed with DetroitSounds' Records.

This--their first release on the label--showcases the band's college rock sensibilities. The songs remain more focused on the instrumental element and lean towards the more-spoken-then-sung vocal school of thought. Recorded by Robert Blum the EP signals a strong shift in sound and more great records to come.
