The latest signing to Popboomerang records is Chris Murphy, guitarist/singer/songwriter from popular Perth band Murphy's Lore
After 10 years and 3 successful albums, Chris has taken a side-step from the band with his new self penned debut solo record - "Elbow Room".
Murphy's Lore's 3 albums are loaded with Chris Murphy compositions and have allowed the band to gain a solid following not only within Australia, but also in the underground pop scenes in USA, UK & Japan.
The thing that stands out most of all on "Elbow Room" is Chris Murphy's unique way of linking his various styled songs to construct a timeless pop production. The classic pop songs he is renowned for with Murphy's Lore are evident on the tracks "World and Universe" and "Bigger They Are The Harder They Fall" Chris is just as comfortable taking a funky rock detour as heard on "Your Pretty Little Head".
Chris Murphy has a wide & impressive vocal range. This is illustrated on "Come and get me", a rocker in the vein of The Faces or 70's era Rolling Stones. He then gently croons his way through 30's swing/jazz pastiche "Good Deeds". Chris even echo's the late great cult USA band Jellyfish on the bouncy "Electric Chair"
Chris Murphy was musically inspired by Crowded House's self titled debut. With the release of "Elbow Room," Chris has fully completed his own journey to pen his own classic pop album.
