Album Notes

My name’s Scott Murray. I write tunes, sing tunes, and just recorded my debut album “VINYL GENERATION”.
Like a million other musicians I gotta day job. You know- the kind that pays for strings, guitars, gear, gas, beer, etc. Mine is the unglamorous world of chef work for the local catering circuit. One night after a sweaty shift working a wedding or Bar Mitzvah or whatever the hell it was, I went to my local bar to watch the Yankee game. Unbeknownst to me, the guy shootin’ the breeze next to me was my future producer, Michael Mugrage (produced, performed and written charted singles for the likes of Smokey Robinson , Chaka Chan, Ronnie Spector, The Orleans, Sugar Rush and a million others).
After overhearing my friends talking about my music he invited me to drop by his studio. We laid down a couple scratches and quickly realized we had something. Before I know it, he's called his good friend Liberty Devitto (drummer for Billy Joel for nearly thirty years) and asked him to play drums for the record. After passing out when Liberty agreed, we dove into the studio and cut eleven tracks of mine.
The result is “VINYL GENERATION”. The tunes represent my years of growing up with records - in a time when the songs were dripping with hooky melodies, big harmonies, and actual performances from actual instruments.
Some people say I sound like The Shins. Some say Elliott Smith. Some say John Lennon. I don’t know about any of that but it’s cool for people to say. I’d love for you to check it out for yourself and make up your own mind.
Hope you dig the record.
Thanks for listening.

Well done. I have a special appreciation for this record because it reminds me of my own music (cdbaby.com/cd/scottmurray). We should do a show together sometime! That would be confusing but pretty cool. Good luck to you!
