SEATTLE, NOW!
"This is the Music for Me"
(a perfect compilation)

THIS IS THE MUSIC FOR ME, a perfect compilation available in independent record stores in Seattle, showcases the best, freshest music from Northwest musicians, many of whom are familiar to music-lovers all over the world for their work in the nineties, when Grunge defined the Seattle sound.
Times have changed. THIS IS THE MUSIC FOR ME features infectious, pop-inflected songs, compiled with a specific intent: to put you in the mood for discovery, live music, a great night out.
Julie Merriman, owner of Olivine Atelier, Seattle's most popular independent clothing store and lifestyle boutique, commissioned THIS IS THE MUSIC FOR ME as a way to introduce her customers to the music she loves, and to draw attention to the new Seattle sound. DJ/Producer Darek Mazzone, host of the popular 'Wo-Pop' on Seattle's KEXP, compiled and produced this unique collection of new music, which includes a specially recorded track by Ken Stringfellow, as well as the latest from Carrie Akre, Brad, Visqueen and more! Here's what the music press has been saying about the artists featured on THIS IS THE MUSIC FOR ME:

*THE DROP
Dreamy and atmospheric pop music that maintains a sinister under-current. -Terry Eagan, Ink 19
The Drop have that uncanny ability to take little whispers and turn them into giant waterfalls of sound at a moments notice. - Nexus Underground

*THE PALE
Melodically infective lyrics explore the science of sensitivity. Indie drums and guitar meld excellently with lo-fi vocals and loungy keys. " -M.Myers, KEXP Seattle.

*VISQUEEN
Led by singer Rachel Flotard, this girl-flavored Seattle band makes absolutely perfect rock-pop-punk: brisk and sparkling-fresh, but with doses of metal-rock that give it substance and reality.
Teresa Gubbins - Dallas Morning News

*DEAR JOHN LETTERS
...deft and delicately written love songs. ...lush vocal harmonies and sweetly persuasive song structures. Often gentle and wholesome, sometimes acrimonious, Benson's songwriting warmly refers to the Beatles, and incorporates a little alt-country flavor into his unique approach. CORIANTON HALE - The Stranger

*CARRIE AKRE
A mix of pop-soul, trip-hop and all out ballads, Invitation is a move in daring new direction for a survivor of the "grunge" era of Seattle. - Pop Matters

*JESSE SYKES
.. an exercise in understated majesty, like Low or Cowboy Junkies with added twang and ground in pepper."-UNCUT, ****
"...takes the listener to a private emotional geography..."-No Depression
"...Jesse sings like a dream...the closest you'll come to a country Sandy Denny."
-Bucket Full of Brains UK

*THE PROM
The Prom's ebony-and-ivory-centered pop songs linger over earnest, poetic lyrics without a hint of melodramatic undertone. (CMJ)

*THE LONG WINTERS
Including appearances by The Posies' Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer, Harvey Danger's Sean Nelson, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Minus 5/Young Fresh Fellow's Scott McCaughey, and Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Wall, to name a few. The Long Winters are yet another Seattle all-star band, and the record lives up to the hype. - IN MUSIC WE TRUST

*RADIO NATIONALS
The big, wide-open sound of Radio Nationals makes the soul yearn for a good, long road trip with no itinerary or return date. - CD Baby

*KEN STRINGFELLOW
Ken Stringfellow is something like power-pop royalty. Not only is he a great songwriter, responsible for half of the music of the Posies, but he's also kept his plate constantly full over the last decade, working with everyone from REM to Big Star to Scott McCaughey to Ringo Starr. - Joe Tangari, Pitchforkmedia.com
