Mutama: Contemporary World Music
Blending ancient rhythms with contempoary lyrics, Mutama transforms audiences with their voices and drums. Mutama's original and traditional music reflects their diverse background and talents. They bring together a multitude of influences-from the music of the Middle East, Southern and West Africa and Ireland-to American funk, gospel and contempoary music. As women of many cultures, ages and backgrounds, they share a common goal-to create music that heals the human spirt.
Based in Oakland, California, Mutama was brought together by Kelly Takunda Orphan and Amber Hines in 1998. Mutama is currently world on their second album project.
"Really beautiful, soulful and present passionate! Great arrangements and group harmony, in voice and spirit. I praise you."--Mikaela Smith, Music Director, Tatenda Youth Marimba, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

people ask,"Who is this!?!?"
author: Marthac
When I don't know what to play, this one is always a good choice: great blend of middle eastern, folk-ish, and some funk. Orphan's tunes are especially evocative and pure. My one complaint is that I wish there were more songs on it! This CD was so delightful, I'll get their next without even blinking. Sing on!
