"DEEP Soul Chants & Hollers" is a musical journey into House Music; soulful, funky, jazz, deep, classic House Music from the minds of one of soul music's most brilliant composers, performers, and producers of today. The music of darkened, underground nightclubs, parties and after-hour spots. For House Headz and Dance music fans, this is one of those CDs you can turn on and leave playing as each track takes you through a House party experience.
"DEEP soul Chants & Hollers" is a modern House Music album rooted in the teenage experiences of Mwalim DaPhunkeeProfessor who, along with some friends slipped into the legendary Paradise Garage, opening a whole new musical world to this Music & Art High School student. An avid fan of the late-night mix shows on WBLS and KISS-FM, the night club atmosphere and sound system took it all to a new level, beyond any of the (then popular) skating rinks that were also popular. Larry Levan, Louie Vega, and a host of other Maestros of what would come to be known as House Music became an underground food to revive the soul.
In a genre that is dominated by DJs as the central production and artistic forces, it is almost unheard of for a House Music project to originate from a musician and a jazz based musician as well, but "DEEP Soul Chants & Hollers" is this soul-funk-jazz master's homage to the House Music scene of his youth and adulthood. As a college student in Boston, long gone spaces and gatherings like The Hub Club, Club M, The Soul Revival, and The Loft would become his haven, as well as The Shelter and Giant Steps when visiting NYC. Today, Boston's House Music scene is focused on a few gathers by the House Music Coalition and Utopia, but it is still a place to get yourself right. of course if you can't make it to the club, you need this CD.
