Originally from the North West of England but a London resident for a number of years, Martin now lives on the outskirts of Bath. Making his mark on the capital’s live scene, he learnt his songwriting craft drawing ideas from his Brixton surroundings and from periods of world travel. The move to the open spaces of the west country gave him the time and inspiration to begin penning what would eventually become Into the Abyss. Influenced by the darker elements of the human condition; not easily pigeonholed, Martin’s tunes have been compared to tunesmiths ranging from Nick Cave and Mark Lanegan to bands like the Pixies and the Charlatans. Although the album was recorded with several other musicians, he is planning a number of low key solo gigs before putting together a band to tour the album.
Written on a home studio, the songs were recorded with a fantastic group of musicians at Studio Paranormal in Bath. Produced by Shorn Rah, the album was mastered by Jon Astley at Close to the Edge in London.
The eleven songs are guitar based with drums, bass and occasional keyboard but the album’s strength lies in Martin’s powerful song writing and vocal performances.
