Album Notes

Marching under the unfurling burlap banner of the West Coast folk and renaissance music movement, The Merry Wives of Windsor are delighted to present our fourth CD, Happy Endings. Founded in 2002, MWOW has amassed an impressive body of traditional and original folk music.

From their rollicking, hard-hitting, bawdy numbers to their soulful and melancholy ballads, these ladies have captivated audiences wherever they perform. Happy Endings shows a depth and maturity to their music which promises to please whether you are a fan of the pure traditional tunes or their rollicking original pieces.

These ten vocalists sing in three- and four-part harmonies, accompanied by guitar, Irish bouzouki, mandolin, bass, accordian, recorder, fiddle and bodhran. They have developed a remarkably modern sound, yet still remain true to their inspirational roots in folk music.

I first heard Jenny's story on Marc Gunn's celtic music podcast, and now I have all of mwow's albums. I ordered this album as soon as could when I found out it was available. I'm glad I did, as this is now one of my favorites. I can't get enough of "Believe Me", even after owning this CD for several months. It makes me think of my wife, which is a good thing.

Like the three albums that come before this Happy Ending is filled with fun songs and gorgeous harmonies. I was immediately pulled in from the humorous first piece Happily Ever After and never looked back. Some of my favorites from this album are I Know my Love, The Bird Song and of course the amazing rendition of 500 Miles. I own all of their albums and hope that they continue releasing more so that I can purchase those as well. Hands down one of my favorite Ren Faire groups.
