First Time Out Here

by Mychael Patrick

"First Time Out Here" is my answer to the New Age/Ambient genre. I composed it for a masseur here on Maui. He gave me a deep tissue massage and to get even with him I gave him the first copy of this album.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
For my birthday, one year, my wife bought me a deep tissue massage. The masseur put on a CD of ambient music. As I listened, I told myself, "I can do that." Uh, record that genre of music, that is (not administer a deep tissue massage). I scheduled a second session. Eight daze later, I returned and I handed the masseur my first copy of "First Time Out Here."

I don't know where "out here" is. My "out here" changes frequently. If you listen to my album and you imagine yourself "out here" somewhere, great. I don't want to influence your "out here." That's why I didn't create a locale for the album cover. Make your own album cover.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
I grew up with music. My mom has taught piano and organ lessons for more than sixty years. She's been a Hammond Organ's teacher-of-the-year and, if you know anything abut Hammond, you can well imagine how a B3 or an M100 must've purred in the hands of an expert. Anywho, she started me on piano when I was 8 or 9 or 10 and is now my most devoted fan.

In my teens and twenties, I was enthralled by the sounds that emanated from the mellotron and the moog. I was fascinated that a person could create magnificent sounds from silence. I dreamed lot the day I might do it. I was forced into early retirement by a disability but I didn't merely put my feet up and snooze all day. I began volunteer work at Hospice and when I'd come home, I'd spend hours and hours emulating Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, Geddy Lee, Toby Marks, Fatboy Slim, and others.

Up 'til now, the highlight of my "career" came in 2006, when my original piece, "Mamba Preto (Blue Tongue mix)" was one of eleven original pieces of music to be selected from hundreds worldwide to appear on the "soundtrack" for the first-ever World Parkinson Congress in Washington DC. I appeared at the convention to present my music.

Each passing year presents more challenges to my ability to perform, as a result of my disability, parkinson's. Yet, I keep plugging along. I hope you get some entertainment value from what I present to you.
