A musical journey through dynamic soundscapes
author: Ned Lud
There are fewer lyrics than most, but they are used to great effect in the more reflective moments of "Someday Zero". The trancelike qualities of the piano led chilled sections are deliberately shattered by powerful electric guitar expressions of the emotion hiding within this album. At other times the power is delivered via spiralling synthesised layers with driving guitars and rolling percussion. The longer tracks build tremendous atmosphere and excitement, and are joined into one musical journey by shorter enigmatic pieces showing the subtle use of cutting edge sound design and production. You could be fooled into thinking that this is one of the coolest heavy rock albums, but it is much much more. If you understand the power of the Mogwai, the inventiveness of Radiohead, or the soundscapes of Floyd, you will get this.
