This Body Gratitude Practice is designed to offer relaxation and healing. Through guided remembering, the listener is reconnected with the wholeness of body, mind, spirit, and emotion.
Body Gratitude was first developed while Monica sat in a bath tub, on the eve of running her first marathon. She decided it was important to have a conversation with her body about what was coming the next day. While silently addressing each part of her body, she was overcome with gratitude at the miracle of her own body in all of its complexity. Further development of this practice was enhanced by her medical practice and working with individuals challenged by health concerns. Many had become disconnected from their body or felt their body had let them down. Pain and seperation had resulted. By experiencing this simple practice of gratitude, many people become reconnected with their physical self, and pain and suffering lessen.
Monica Myklebust, MD is an Integrative Medicine consultant who offers care to adult individuals seeking fresh and comprehensive approaches to medical challenges and to optimal health. She became a Family Physician at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and an Integrative Physician at the Program in Integrative Medicine's two year residential fellowship under the guidance of Dr. Andrew Weil. She now practices at and directs University of Michigan Integrative Medicine Clinical Services.
Dr. Myklebust believes that by bringing the philosophies and practices of many healing systems together, Integrative Medicine offers the best healing options to people struggling with medical challenges, people pursuing optimal wellness and to physicians and other healthcare professionals who are suffering from compassion fatigue. She believes that Integrative Medicine, which reaffirms the importance of relationship, focuses on the whole person, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches to health and healing, offers the greatest hope for healing individuals and our health care system.
