Album Notes

"Who is Myles Lawrence, you ask? He's the singer-songwriter who is preparing to take the Portland music scene by storm...Don't let the newness of this face fool you; Myles Lawrence is at complete ease with his presence on stage, quipping humor and wit throughout the show. His charming presence coupled with his talent wraps him up into an A+ act..."

~Valerie Richardson, In Music We Trust Magazine

“When I think about writing music, I want to create something that has elements I could find soothing during 'that time of year,' you know, the time that returns each year to find you contemplating life and its contents. Whether happy or sad, it’s reflective, and it causes you to reevaluate your daily motivations. That’s the music I love, and it's the music I hope I’m making.”
~Myles Lawrence

This is the first release from the Southern born Singer-songwriter, and it features songs he began writing after moving to the Northwest five years ago. He'd decided to make the move with notions chasing of a girl, but in the end he could not keep her affections. From there, the story is the same as with many a broken heart: After chasing and losing what felt like love, Myles sought to find resolution in his songwriting. However, what set him apart was the realization that his music would become less about this girl, and more about something much bigger.

“Things just got to be really focused on the concept of love on this earth...like, can anyone really love another person unconditionally? Or, can that fairytale romance really happen like it does in the movies? “

While his music would lend the answer, “not usually,” there is a certain sense of hope about Myles' writing and musicality. The album is rich with strong lyrical story telling, a daring vocal approach, and arrangements that are just as strong and engaging as all the other elements. Minus the Girl stands up to be a raw but effective first release from the brooding songwriter.

“This record is for anyone who's wanted someone or something so bad but they either never got it, tried so hard that they messed it up, or never had eyes to see it was right in front of them the whole time. I really think people are going to connect and relate to what's been put into it.”
