Album Notes

LUCKY was conceived by MYNDY K & I. MALCOLM FRANCIS. MALCOLM is Canadian and proud of it. He was born on a skateboard & grew up on punk rock. He toured Canada & the U.S.A. playing bass for a band called Skin Barn opening for Urge Overkill, Green Day & Nirvana. In '93 he moved to the Big Apple lookin' for trouble & started his own prod. Co., Popular Beat Combo, making beats for MTV & VH1 and re-mixing tracks for artist like Etta James & Donna Summer. MYNDY K grew up on a musical goat farm in the green mountains of Vermont. Her mom, Alice, taught her how to make up her own harmonies by the potbelly stove at night. She loves to sleep in vans as she was almost born in one and lived in one when her dad's bands would occasionally go on the road. Myndy grew up watching both of her parents play in bands and that was how she knew for sure that she never wanted to be in one herself. But, when she came to NYC it wasn't long before she met some drag queens and learned how to disguise her redneck roots like a pro. After getting a record deal in '96 Myndy K quickly developed a reputation on the underground music scene as one of the fiercest performers in club land. In '99 she worked with Dido as the sole background singer on her first U.S. tour while she also supported her own #14 Billboard dance hit "MOMENTS". The truth is that since she was small she's known that someone somewhere was making the music that was inside her head...the music she heard in her mind when she wrote the songs...then she met Malcolm. Almost immediately after meeting MALCOLM & MYNDY were totally & completely swept into the force they now call LUCKY. They got together to see how it would go and resurfaced 23 songs later knowing that what they'd been waiting for their whole lives was now upon them. The search was over and they had to do something with what they'd found. That something is LUCKY, the band. Myndy K on vocals, I. Malcolm Francis on bass, Rob Bose (D.E.V.A.) on keyboards, Genji Siraisi (Groove Collective) on drums & our newest member... Vini Miranda (Dido) on guitar. After the long awaited release last year of their first album, "Stories By The Fire's Side" they've since been working on the second & playing live all over NYC to a consistently mesmerized, incredibly loyal & wildly diverse audience. "Queen Of The Sun", from their first album, was chosen for the movie, "This Girl's Life", starring James Woods and Rosario Dawson to be released in '03. Fat Boy Slim's label, Southern Fried Records, released a remix of LUCKY's "Shine On" for the U.K. in '02 & several tracks by LUCKY and DJ CASHCOW aka I. Malcolm Francis are featured on the Frequent Flyers soundtrack available at pusher.com. Their sound is electronic meets acoustic, dark meets light, Blondie meets Patsy, a serpent with wings.........feelin' LUCKY? Remember...the only difference between LICK and LUCK is U
