If Ingmar Bergman fronted a rock band, it might sound something like Myna--an Austin, Texas 3-piece that combines evocative, abstract lyricism with punk-edged hard rock, proving that not all rock musicians are idiots.

Album Notes

"Trust your eccentricities" could very well be the mantra of Austin, Texas rock outfit Myna, and it shows in the music they create. As a part of the indie rock world that's becoming increasingly trendy and less independent by the second, the trio's mission statement is simple: in the words of singer/guitarist Nathan Singleton, "We want to make music that's classic and timeless but also relevant and contemporary. It is what it is."

Myna was formed over the summer of 2002 in Commerce, Texas, where Singleton met bassist Blake Ball and drummer Jeremy Harrell at college. They recorded a demo early on of some folk-pop tunes that Singleton had written, but as the band's writing progressed, the music took on a darker, moodier, and harder edge. Influences from all over the map can be heard in their music, from maverick songwriter Chris Whitley, Cream, Zeppelin, Tom Petty and the Stones, to the Cure, the Cult, INXS and Janes Addiction. The trio cashed in its chips and moved to Austin, Texas in 2003.

Since then, Myna has grown into one of the most accomplished rock acts on the Austin scene, and have shared the stage with a veritable who's-who of Texas indie rock, performing with Pretty the Quick Black Eyes, the goldenrule, Fairfax, The Wheelworks, The Real Heroes, The Dailys, Subset, Fair to Midland, Vise Versa, Gerling,Future Ex-Boyfriends, America is Waiting, and Svengali, just to name a few. The band has been playing regionally as well, hitting some college towns and getting press and raves along the way. Flamingo Cantina booking agent and local indie music aficianado says they "add a jagged punk edge to what is already a fantastic pop trio with hooks aplenty." Their recently self-released record "Echoes of the Dead" is already garnering local airplay and a buzz in the music crowds. Looks like trusting their eccentricities was Myna's best bet.
