Evan "Mikey" Myquest, poet and horror movie fanatic, aged 57, was raised in the October country of northern Illinois about the same time as his influences, Stephen King and Dan Simmons, teen terrorized and fear stomped their regions. He now lives in the Sierra foothills of northern California with his wife, Eva, and two birds. He has one daughter, Alicia, and one grandson, Eric.
Evan had a Dilbert-esque cubicle corporate career for many years until he got back to his first loves, writing and speculative fiction. During a Santa Cruz beach vacation in the mid 1990s he discovered a)he hated the ocean beach noise and b)staying indoors and writing vampire poetry was infinitely preferable to pina coladas and long romantic walks on the beach. From vampires he branched out to zombies, werewolves and loose psychos and shots with beer chasers.
His aim in writing is to make less preferable than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. When his stories were performed one Halloween in a coffeehouse in Sacramento, a lady crossed herself and ran from the establishment. He considered this a testimony and a damn fine critical pat on the back. Others mentioned going home for showers.
In "Halloween Stories from the Basement" Mikey teamed up with reader Renne Gromacki and studio producer David Houston of Sacramento to cast these story poems in as gruesome a light as possible for your Halloween enjoyment.
