Album Notes

Terry Myrick started singing as a child in his church choir in Tampa Florida. It would take some time for him to perfect his vocal style, which currently includes a range from baritone to soprano, but his early background blessed him to perform on the same stage as some remarkable gospel artists, including Walter Hawkins, Tramaine Hawkins, Edwin Hawkins, Shirley Ceasar, Desiree Coleman Jackson, Commissioned, and many more.

Terry got his big break in show business when he appeared in the Off-Broadway smash hit musical, "Mama I Want To Sing," According to Time Magazine, "Terry performed prodigies of soul stirring," and Ebony Magazine was another publication to feature him and the rest of the show's cast. Terry went on to a starring role in "A Vision" and then to a role in "Captain", both of which were Off-Broadway musicals. His remarkable vocal range also helped him to become an "Apollo Amateur Night" winner, but Terry as also had audiences in the classroom, having been a music teacher for more than seventeen years now.

Terry's latest project is his record label, Sweet Melody Records, which is named after his late grandmother, Lillia "Sweet" Mosley, and his new Goddaughter, "Meloldy" Torres. It is through this label that he recently released his debut album, I Bowed To The Father. "God has truly blessed this CD to come into existence," says Terry."I am overwhelmed with excitement because I am filled with felicity to know that God has truly allowed me the opportunity to write, compose, and minister his word."

Terry goes on to say that completing the project and recognizing the impact it has already had on people's lives has been the highlight of his career thus far. When asked to describe the feel of the album, Terry respond, "I consider my sound to be a contemporary urban gospel sound combined with a touch of traditional gospel and hip-hop flavor." He adds that what sets him apart from any comparable artists is his unique vocal range, and what makes his music special is the heartfelt lyrics and composition, which combine to give the music its "profound spiritual essence."

As for the future, Terry plans to spend much of his time promoting the new album and touring as much as possible. He will also be taking on new writing and producing projects,in addition to bolstering the Sweet Melody roster with new artists. "My goals and aspirations are to touch the hearts, minds, and souls of everyone who listens to my music so their lives will always be aware of God's continuous love and his goodness," says Terry. "This will be an accomplishment that will continue to progress as long as I continue to stay focused on what God has planned for my music Ministry."

Glory!
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.com
Terry has an incredible vocal range – he can sing baritone to soprano with soulful ease. His lyrics are about life and doubt but most of all his ever-present hope in God. There is no doubt where Myrick's heart and passion lies. He composes spiritual songs that incorporate drum programming, piano, strings, keys, guitars and some rapping. Layered vocals are a big part of his sound. Myrick does list auxiliary singers but the majority of incredible vocals belong to Terry. He aptly describes his music as "contemporary urban gospel combined with a touch of traditional gospel and hip-hop flavor." I Bowed to the Father is Terry's debut twelve-track CD. 'Lord I Just Wanna Thank You' is the opening song. It features fabulous piano work, layered over a steady beat as Terry soulfully sings his gratitude. The song is enriched by multiple harmonizing vocals. 'Alleluia' has a steady, poignant groove as Terry's soprano soars over serious, harmonizing vocals. The track also has a bit of rap for diversity. 'Lay It On Jesus' is slow and sweet with subtle instrumentation. Myrick really holds the high notes on this gospel-powered song. Terry Myrick gives his best to God on this spiritual debut release!
