Album Notes

Long Live the King

August 16, 1977 will be in my memory forever. The day Elvis died. It was a Tuesday.
I was singing at King of the Road in Nashville, when the word came down. Shock. Nobody could talk. I couldn’t sing. That day, I went into mourning and wrote this song. After five days of grief, I took it to my publisher. The song was too late for release, as there were over 120 tribute songs in the hands of Nashville publishers. So, the song rested in a file cabinet for 31 years. To celebrate the 40-year anniversary of Elvis’s opening at Las Vegas International Hotel, Producer Pat Navarre and I recorded this song for Elvis fans. My heart still aches when I hear his music. Sadly, another King died recently, the multi-talented Michael Jackson. I pray someone will write his tribute with as much love as I felt writing this one.
