The Tree of Life is an uplifting collection of songs, in English and Chinese, combining eastern and western elements, inspired by the Bahá’í sacred text: The Hidden Words of Bahá’u’lláh, within which the inner essence of religion is expressed.
From That's Beijing, March 2009:
'The Tree of Life'- Local boy, Beijing resident Nabil (伊杰) Huening is a colorful mix of personality, circumstance and situation. An American with a Korean wife and 3 children who sings Chinese folk songs for a living, only Nabil could pull of his inspirational music CD 'The Tree of Life'. 'The Tree of Life' is a collection of 12 passages from the Baha'i Writings put to music and sung in both English and Mandarin. The first of more such planned CDs, Nabil is no stranger to public performances and has sung all over China and on CCTV. Nabil is serious when he says he "works with the Lei Feng spirit" to give people a CD that is "more meaningful than a pop song". Check out Nabil, his parents, and kids singing as only the truly inspired can and making cuts like 'If Thou Lovest Me' and 'Wealth' not only listenable but, memorable and cool.
