" A Song For Marion" is a jazz CD containig 11 songs of which 5 are recognizable standards, 4 jazz classics from the pens of Horace Silver, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane. The 3 other pieces are from the great pianist Kenny Barron and 2 by Jon Nagourney.
The CD "A Song For Marion" is enhanced by the wounderful talents of pianist Kenny Barron, bassist John Clayton and on drums Dick Berk.
The recording and mastering was done by Jim Mooney, a legendary figure in producing the finest quality of jazz music for the past 40 years. the total running time of this CD is just over 67 minutes.
Dick Berk And Jon Nagourney have been long time jazz mates since the early 80's. Besides this CD they also recorded "Big Jake" and "The Rare One" on the Discovery label. Dick's group, "The Jazz Adoption Agency" was one of the hottest jazz group around at the time.
"A Song For Marion" receives air time on KLON, the nations best jazz radio staion around,frequently played by Chuck Niles and Sam Feilds.
Jon Nagourney has been playing the vibes since 1982. He has worked on cruis ships from Canada to the Caribbean. He also plays in Hawaii, Las Vages, the south of France, Portland Orgon. He also Plays at many jazz venus in Los Angeles such as "Jazz Bakery", "Catalina Bar and Grill", and the now defunct "Carmelos and Dontes."
Presently teaching improvison, and is the author of 7 jazz books with emphasis of more than 1,500 transcribed songs and solos from the masters of the jazz idioms. Hank's Mobely and Jones and Sonny Clark are at the top Of Nagourney's main influences. He has over 500 Hank Jones solos and 100 solos each of Mobley and Clark. It should be said though his improve teachings works for all instruments (except drums and vocals) and has been fortunate to have had students playing professionaly and making a living in the music business.
Kenny Barron is a musicain of termendos talent. Not only a great improviser and accompanist, Kenny is probably the most sought after pianist around. He has been on at leat 300 albums lending his graet piano skills to everyone. Check out his solo on his "Tragic Magic". A true gentalmen, Kenny helped make this CD one Enjoyable Experience For the Players as well as the listenign public.
John Clayton, the great jazz bassist has also been on hundreds of recordings, both as a sideman and in his own, Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra projects. John has a real swinging and supportive style. Check out his work on the vibe-bass duo of "Deep in a Dream".
Dick Berk as well has been on many recordings, playing with Cal Tjader to Billie Holiday to Milt Jackson, as well as most giants in jazz. His har driving swinging drums always ingnites what ever setting he's on.
