The Naked Sams are a high-energy rock group with intelligent undertones and catchy melodies taking the Boston and New England music scene by storm.
After releasing the EP "I've Messed Myself" in 1999, the band soon became a local favorite making regular appearances at some of Boston's renown clubs like The Middle East and TT The Bears.
With the success of the EP, the band went back into the studio with producer David Minehan to record and release a full length LP titled "Nozzle." The full length has received very favorable press and was the number one selling album at Radioboston.com, during the first month of it's release.
You may also be able to experience The Sams at a town near you because the band is hitting the road for a late Summer/early Fall tour this year.
Boston rock/pop is alive and well in the eyes of this music observer.
The Naked Sams have caught my attention from the first listen and it looks like I will not look away anytime soon from their first full-length release.
Back in 1999, the Naked Sams had success with their release of their EP titled I've Messed Myself.
College radio across the country placed this Boston based power trio on their playlists and even the mighty WFNX (FNX Radio Network now) played the EP in their local spotlight.
Highlights from Nozzle: "Nobody Special" - leads of the disc with a catchy mild distorted guitar that sucked me in.
Good pop rock tune but that riff is now stuck in my head now.
Thanks guys! "Silently Falling" - even heavier riff that is crunchy and grungy.
I get a big King's X vibe off this tune and that is great since I love that Texas trio.
Harmonies with a heavy riff - gotta love it.
"Listening" - pop rock tune with a straight-ahead style that emits heartfelt emotion.
Pop radio could add this song immediately to their playlist and the phones would start ringing off the hook.
"For You" - I get a Nirvana flavor from this one.
That is a compliment in my eyes.
Catchy chorus with a pop sensibility.
Cool... "Gave Myself Away" - kind of an epic pop rock tune that gives me that harmony filled feeling along the lines of another one of my favorite bands - Da Da "Stutter" - rockin' upbeat tune that gets your feet moving.
I can see myself doing to pogo at a club to this one.
"Something" - this modern rock/pop song will have everyone singing the infectious chorus "Here again, that's something, kind of makes everything ok..." There are no weak songs in my opinion on Nozzle.
Hats off to the Naked Sams because I have not had this feeling about a local band since this mid 1990's with one of my favorite Boston bands of all time - Only Living Witness.
I am sure the local rock stations (WAAF, FNX Radio Network and WBCN) will play this cd like crazy on their local music spotlight shows but I challenge them to play Nozzle during the day.
This cd is that good and should be on the radio in regular rotation.
I am discouraged by local radio stating all the time that they broke a local band.
Local radio plays local bands on the their local music shows.
They do not add them to regular rotation until the get a record deal with a major label.
Example include Powerman 5000, Godsmack and Nullset.
I know there has been some exceptions.
Sorry for the rant - let's get back to the nude ones.
The Naked Sams know how to write and play great rock/pop songs.
Self described as a heavy pop trio - that description is right on.
I hear elements of other bands (King's X, Nirvana, Tonic, Da Da and the Foo Fighters) in their music but I feel Nozzle has its own sound.
Go visit nakedsams.com and buy this disc.
Also call local radio and request this now.
When these guys make it big (and they should/will), you can say "I remember listening to the Naked Sams back in the day".
Make that day today.

Intriguing contrasts !
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.com
The Naked Sams' music is a blend of rock, grunge with a dash of pop. They write catchy hook heavy melodies complete with animated guitars and commanding beats. This eleven track CD is filled with edgy lyrics, good harmonies and intense instrumentation. The album opens with 'Nobody Special'. Thunderous beats and smoldering guitars flow throughout and plow into an infectious hook line and fine vocals. 'Silently Falling' is another high-octane tune with scorching guitars powerful beats juxtaposed with smooth vocals. I like the contrast of heavy rifts and subtle pop vocals. This technique is used throughout the CD and could possible become a trademark quality for this up and coming band. 'Stutter' is another rip-roaring tune with mighty drumming, grinding guitars and in this case rougher yet still intriguing vocals. Nozzle sprays the listener with intense instrumentation and zealous vocals!
