Album Notes

Charismatic and versatile, Nancy Luzko's music-making stems from the Contemporary Classical and embraces influences from other musical genres, including rhythms of Latin America and elements of Jazz. Her music has been performed on stages of Europe and the Americas. Her work Sonatina for piano won the first prize at the “National Contemporary Composition Competition” in Asuncion, Paraguay, and was published by the Paraguayan Vice Ministry of Culture and the French Alliance. An orchestrated version of Sonatina was subsequently premiered by the Asuncion Symphony Orchestra.

As a pianist, she performs classical and contemporary works, including her own music, and has given concerts both as a soloist and with orchestra, captivating audiences in countries such as Argentina, Austria, Canada, Paraguay, Poland, Spain, and the USA. She has received numerous praising reviews, among them The Washington Post wrote: “ Luzko invested the notes with honesty and integrity…”, “Ravel’s Sonatine, brisk and invigorating, stood out for the ripe phrasing and linear clarity Nancy brought to the music…”, “She made the arrangements sparkle with colorful touches… ”

Paraguayan born, Nancy Luzko began her musical studies in her homeland, and continued her education in Warsaw, Poland. She subsequently took residency in the USA, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Kansas, a Master of Music degree from Florida International University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Miami.

Great Latin Twist
author: DanielVenegas
I love this CD!!! it evokes the different moods and fantasies of a great artist. it's an original latin twist of traditional styles and forms. I can't make up my mind which one is my favorite composition (I don't think I have to) but I do love the Jazzy sounds of Bliss, the virtuosic writing of the Presto (3rd movement of Sonatina) and Through the Doorway, the sweetness and innocence of Lara contrasted with the sarcastic and some how caricaturistic representation of evil in the Mephistophele's Samba. A highlight on this CD is The Day I Was Not Myself, here Nancy was not afraid of sharing a very intimate thought; to me this is the maximum expression of melancholy and perhaps confusion... I felt very identified by this composition. I really enjoy the impressionistic and somehow programmatic style of both Parana (a river in Paraguay) and Aestus Maris. These are some of the reasons why I believe this CD is important and necessary for any musician or a smart music amateur. The performance of Nancy is exquisite! because you can hear she is a classical trained professional pianist with great talent and obvious understanding and projection of the ideas and moods of her own music.

Nancy Luzko is an incredible composer and pianist. Her compositions are a mesmerizing blend of classical, impressionism, jazz, and new age style that transport the imagination of the listeners to a peaceful remote place. I would recommend this precious musical gift to anyone who wishes to enjoy high quality art. Nancy's compositions will touch your heart. If you are the kind of person who appreciates a good novel, a good film, and a nice cup of coffee with your best friend, you'll love this album. EB
