Two remarkable essays read aloud by this outspoken, award-winning author and contemplative activist. "On Having Adventures" from Nancy Mairs's first book, *Plaintext,* and "A Necessary End" from the recent, *A Troubled Guest.* These are brave and candid essays that take up the themes of death, loss, physical limitations, and mental vibrancy---presenting a a steely-eyed self with in exquisite detail.
Nancy Mairs grew up north of Boston. In 1964, she received the A.B. cum laude from Wheaton College (Norton, Massachusetts), which made her a Doctor of Humane Letters thirty years later.
