Windsongs is a CD that practically made itself.
I was together in a recording studio with three of my friends, and these pieces just played themselves. The first piece we recorded brought such a strong fragrance of meditation, we just couldn't stop.
The santour player, who is a wonderful musician, simply suggested a new raga (Indian scale) and then we had an instant and beautiful structure to play with, the results are astounding. The flute soars over the swarmandel (Indian harp) as it delicately picks out melodies. The santour taps out its melodies so sensitively. Magic happens.
The first piece is called Megh, and is a raga that is traditionally played during monsoon; it flows, runs, and ebbs.
The second piece is called Shakti, Shakti being the feminine aspect of power. This piece simply sparkles.
Then we have Bairagi, which is a night or early morning raga. The word bairagi means a desireless person, one who has renounced the world successfully. This piece of music takes you deeply inside yourself.
The last piece, Malkauns, is also a night or midnight raga, and gently brings the listener back to the everyday world.
This CD is perfect to play while making love, giving a massage, or just playing in the background while you go about your normal activities. It's calming message never gets old. This music is really timeless.
Now for a little biographical information:
I was trained as a professional musician, which involved practicing the flute for hours a day, playing in an orchestra and teaching in a University and College. Things changed radically when I met Osho, and found a new way to have fun in life! I became a spiritual seeker.
Alongside being a successful street musician in Rome, I made almost yearly visits of a few months to the Osho International Commune in Pune, India. There was a lot of 'personal growth' as well as incredible music making with musicians who came there from all over the world! (Deva Premal and Miten, Prem Joshua, Karunesh, Sambodhi Prem, Chinmaya Dunster, Milarepa, and Manish Vyas just to name of few.)
And so started my CD career with musicians I met there. ('Feng Shui' Parts One and Two, Windsongs', 'Pure Delight', 'Tai Chi', 'The Art of the Wise Women', 'On a Day Like This', 'Flowers' and 'From Here to Here')
Then I met Samarpan and found the end of seeking when I attended Satsang. (www.samarpan.de) I found out who I really am, (vastness, deep peace, silence) and got to make a lot of music too! I started to play keyboards and sing, and this was really a meeting with the divine for me.
The CD's 'Divine Landscapes', 'The Universe Inside', Touched by the Divine', 'Atmospheres in Music', 'Blessings' and 'Yes Is the Answer' came out of this time.
The music on all of these CDs helps to support a meditative and relaxing atmosphere. - although you can sing along with most of the songs on 'Yes Is the Answer'.
After some years on the road with Samarpan, I met Arjuna (www.livingessence.com) who brought to light how we can actually live an awakened life, and embody who we really are on a practical level. This is fantastic, and makes life easier and more delightful - which is what my name, Vimal Nandin means - 'Pure Delight!'
And so the journey continues to be more interesting than I could have ever imagined.!
