The music of Narodna Muzika is a powerful mix of sounds played with acoustic instruments to capture the classic spirit of the exciting music of the Balkans.
Narodna Muzika was started up in early 2006. It is focused around the collaboration between Icelandic clarinet/saxophone player Haukur Grondal and the Bulgarian accordion virtuoso Borislav Zgurovski.
The repertoire consists of classic Bulgarian/Greek/Roma music inspired by some of the old masters of Balkan folklore.
Members of the group are Haukur Grondal clarinet, Borislav Zgurovski accordion, Todor Vasilev tamboura, Thorgrimur Jonsson bass, Mitko Popov tapan and Erik Qvick drums.
Narodna Muzika's first CD was released in the end of 2008 on Rodentmusic.
It was recorded in Plovdiv, Bulgaria and is a good example of the group's energetic, soulful take on the colorful music of the Balkans.
