The Craftsman is the first single on gnarphlager records for Pittsburgh synthpop band Narse, delving into dark moody electronics, trip-hop beats and narrative songwriting. Self-produced and recorded in josh's own asocial studios, The Craftsman represents an exciting new direction for Narse, as well as the first CD release for crowd favorite songs "Let Go" and "Change".
Formed in May 2005, Narse creates music that explores the sounds of electronic instruments while focusing on songwriting. Narse was founded by josh (Pancreatic Aardvarks(ambient noise), Gallows Tree(traditional folk), The Good Neighbors(Celtic Trance)) as a way to explore the vocal side of electronic music. Since the beginning, Narse has tried to keep as much of the performance as live as possible, using hardware synthesizers and drum machines rather than computers to create the music.
In January of 2007, josh was joined by virginia, who had trained in opera and classical music, bringing an entirely different perspective to the world of synthpop! Previously, she has had leading roles in in operas such as "The Marriage Of Figaro", "Die Fleidermaus", and "The Face On The Barroom Floor" as well as other opera, chamber, and oratorio work, primarily in NY state.
The Craftsman single features remixes by Pancreatic Aardvarks and The Good Neighbors, as well as an extended version of the song "Change" exclusive to this release. "Change", "Let Go" and "The Craftsman" will appear on the upcoming full length debut CD, available early summer 2007.
