A Complete Set
author: Dave Dunn
I became aware of Naruto by accident, because her picture caught my eye on someone's MySpace friends list. I checked out her page and found the music there haunting and beautiful, like nothing I had heard before. I sent her an add request which she accepted, and we have corresponded a few times, once when I commented on her status and once when Oneeyed 1-10 arrived, to tell her how amazing the CD was when heard all together. Well, naturally, I had to have the next ten in the series, to complete what I believe was intended to be a set of twenty songs that are meant to be heard together. I was not disappointed in the second CD, as it contains some inspiring and accessible work, especially number 7, Piece of a Planet. Especially nice is the fact that unlike the first recording, there are English translations of the lyrics and many more examples of Naruto's transcendent paintings, which complement the music pefectly. Ironically, the second CD's very accessibility makes me prefer the strangeness and wonder of the first set of songs. 11-20 seems to contain much more western pop influence and the songs sound more like what we here in the States think of as "songs," which is not a bad thing, just different. That being said, I would recommend both of these CDs as a two-record set, as I believe they belong together, and I am a true Naruto believer.
