Album Notes

Natasha Collette has completed her latest album, VIDA. Inspired by the works of medieval French troubadours, VIDA combines spoken word and underscore; effortlessly merging medieval and modern compositions. Utilizing period instruments and writing techniques, she creates a world where the transparent beauty of language brings forth a story of love.

The inspiration for VIDA came nearly a decade ago; a music history class introduced Natasha to the work of medieval troubadours. "Vida" literally means "life", and it was standard performance practice to introduce a song or poem with a bit of information about the composer, performer, or subject matter of the piece. The 'vidas' are a compilation of these biographies, a unique form of medieval prose.

In the new album, Natasha Collette has created an entire world peopled by medieval archetypes - a wandering minstrel, a gifted lady troubadour, a Crusader, and an impossible love triangle. Each of these characters is introduced with his own fictitious vida, and musical motif. Enjoyable on multiple levels, this album will beckon for a second, third, fourth listening to glean all the subtleties of its production! Much more in-depth information (artistic, biographic, and academic) is available on the website www.natashacollette.com.
