Album Notes

Nathalie Cora

After having been initiated to the Cora in 1986, Nathalie pursues her training in Africa with renowned masters as of 1993. This apprenticeship is made possible by the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.
Up until 2001, she specializes in African music repertoire in collaboration with singers such as Lilison (Guinée Bissao) and Youssou Seck (Sénégal), and as a member of the group Takadja (Juno prize,1996).

“ Not only is her mastery of the capricious instrument an oustanding achievement, her talent as a composer is undeniable. While well rooted in the African tradition of the instrument, her music takes us further, into a bordeless and dreamlike universe. Nathalie Cora is a remarkable artist that the public at large must discover!”
Michel Rivard.

I love this CD -- wonderfully fresh kora music that's contemporary but with distinct traditional roots. I'll be posting a longer review shortly at www.SoundRoots.org
