Nathan McEuen - Scrapbook Sessions 2010
In 2009 Nathan McEuen spent over 200 days on the road playing live shows, radio, television, songwriting, hanging out with friends jamming in hotels or backstage, sitting in with other bands, taking pictures and videos, site seeing and anything else that he could fit in.
For Nathan, it is difficult to fully express in words how much fun and how dynamic it is 'out there on the road.' He figured the best way to capture the experiences is by recording them with his portable studio and bringing them back to the fans.
Every year 'the road' presents him with a new path of exploration, which he will begin to capture and share through 'Scrapbook Sessions' regardless of location, musical genre, instrumentation, or song amount. This 'Scrapbook' release is the first of five to come...
This past year inspired nine new original songs and features many Artists/Friends including: Scott Gates, Chuck Hailes, Paul Cartwright, Chelsea Williams, Mario Calire (Ozomatli, Wallflowers), Mike Longoria (Patty Griffin, Bob Schneider), Ed Berghoff, Chris Caswell, and John McEuen to name a few...

Reviews:
It’s one thing to be the offspring of a famous father (John McEuen), but to also perform in the shadow of an ultratalented older brother (Jonathan McEuen) can interfere with one’s chance of success and state of mind. That’s what makes the well-adjusted Nathan McEuen so special. His latest release — the first of five planned recordings — The Scrapbook Sessions, is a collection of musical snapshots of McEuen’s travels around the country and a shining example of the Americana genre. From the album’s highlight, the heartfelt gorgeous country ballad “Lately,” to the honky-tonk feel of “Let It Go,” plus the full-fledged banjo anthem “Banjormous,” it’s a smorgasbord of joyful genres. McEuen’s travels will continue this summer, but not before two CD release parties at Zoey’s this Friday, June 18.

Technically and artistically, Nathan maintains his consistent level of quality in his new recordings and in his live performances, and kicks it up a notch with each new release. Nathan’s earlier CD’s “Grand Design” and “Festival” are both “quintessential Nathan McEuen”…yet provide the listener with different experiences. Nathan’s new CD is yet another new sensory delight.
“Scrapbook Sessions” has Nathan’s thumbprint…but with this release, he has achieved a new level of maturity and depth to his already seasoned style. As with his former releases, it’s hard for me to find a “favorite” track…I like them all. But, in the first pass, I like “Lately” (a collaboration with Chelsea Williams), “All That Really Matters”, and “Banjormous” (an original banjo tune by Nathan, that came from growing up hearing his dad John McEuen, play and perform the banjo…and on this track his dad plays second banjo.)
The audiences loving the new songs, and are responding enthusiastically!
