Album Notes

Nazim Rashid has played with some of the world's best jazz masters such as Eddie Harris, Eddie Henderson, Hank Jones, Arthur Prysock, Richard "Groove" Holmes, Billy Higgins, Pharoah Sanders, Jimmy Smith, John Handy and others. Nazim has studied with Eddie Harris and Joe Henderson, perfomed with the San Francisco Big Band for 13 years, also with his own sextet 'The Nazim Rashid Sextet' in the Bay area, and in the Phoenix, AZ area with his group 'Nazim Rashid & New Renaissance releasing his first CD in 2002 entitled 'Remembrance.' Nazim traveled with the Coasters and the Drifters in the mid 70's and with a R&B group in the early 70's. Nazim recorded a New Age CD with Erin Jacobsen entitled 'Hour of the Pearl,' on the Ursa Minor Record label. Nazim plays a unique saxophone called the 'saxello.' This instrument is a 1914 antique saxophone very similar to the soprano saxophone. It sounds very Eastern and transcendental. He also plays the traditional Selmer Tenor Saxophone, that all the masters have played.

On the CD 'Remembrance' Nazim uses Ray Carter on Bass, Nicolas Abramowicz on drums, Jacob Koller on piano, special guest vocalist Peaches and Dan Slipetsky on string effects.

Words? How can words convey the perfection of the notes?

Have to say this is a great CD. I got turned onto it via a DJ on our local college radio station, KDUR, here in Durango, Colorado. Was very surprised to learn these guys are from Phoenix. How great. Who knew such great jazz musicians live in Arizona? I'm an amateur jazz aficionado and got turned onto it in NYC, so was wonderfully surprised I could even hear them live at the Glendale Jazz Fest sometime soon. Definitely check these guys out! You'll fly, you'll ride, you'll float, you'll zoom...

Terrific Soothing yet Sophisticated Jazz Experience
author: Andalin Bachman
Nazim's "Remembrance" is a gateway to new expression in jazz music. Adding smooth jazz to mainstream standards, while at the same time "connecting" with outstanding musicians, is a tribute to both the art of jazz and its founders. It is fantastic to experience this group as they open up and stretch out on "River Nile." The sax work is mesmerizing. "River Nile" is a complete musical journey. At almost 14 minutes long, we're not likely to hear this composition in an air play rotation, which is an important reason for any jazz buff to get the CD! ~And what an incredible treat to hear Peaches in the tradition of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Billie Holiday with her take on "Stormy Weather". Many greats come to mind when I hear Nazim perform, a few of which include Grover Washington, Jr., John Coltrane and even Michael Brecker. What sets Nazim Rashid apart is his passionate synthesis of pure jazz styles resulting in his own signature performance. Remembrance is a remarkable accomplishment, as this music is both soothing enough for a breeze station radio listener and sophisticated enough for diehard jazz fan.

Soothing, sweet and mellow. I had this CD on continuous play for a party and no one noticed that I had not changed CDs. Most of the songs kept me swaying to the beat. Great job to the entire band.

author: Valerie E.
I felt enchantment as the music tingled my senses listening to the CD Remembrance. I felt the same way when I first heard Grover Washington play in New York. I knew right away this was a fantastic musical group that will be at the top of the Music World's Jazz greats.
