NBFB - No Bud For Bisson mixes their old school "Space Funk" with their newer, edgier
"Rocktronica" to make any crowd bump their heads and shake moneymakers. Since 1998, the year of the bands' inception, NBFB has released THREE full-length albums.
The band, in it's storied past, has had many configurations, but the most current combo has proven to keep their signature "Space Funk/Rocktronica" sound an addictive audiodrug to countless live music fans. Never playing the same show twice, NBFB maintains the "jam" tradition, while keeping the aimless "noodling" to a minimal. With funky and tight rhythmic arrangements, the band bridges all genres of music into one cohesive, dance inducing force that makes almost every bootie shake.
Their third and most current release, "NiBFiB Confidential", has proven a milestone in the evolution of the band, It shows their movement from itty-ditty poppers, to serious and funky songwriters. Produced, Engineered and Mixed by NBFB and Students and Faculty at the New England Institute of Art in Brookline, MA, this album was an incredible creative effort from many students and teachers the same.
With special guests Sam Kininger on Saxophone (Soulive, Lettuce, Brotherhood of Groove, and Sam Kininger Band) and Alecia Chakour on Vocals (The Systematics), this CD is sure to satisfy even the most discerning musical palate.

Local Legend Johnny Memphis gives Praise to the new Disc

+Spirit of the groove+
NBFB has got their space funk together. Their new
album ''NiBFiB Confidential'' is an explosive batch of
tight funk that pulls in rock, reggae, and a spacious
inclination towards jazz improvisation. NBFB got their
start in 1998 when three of the current members met at
the Amherst Regional High School Jazz Workshop.
They have been growing their music ever since,
releasing the CDs ''Quantum Sessions'' in 2001 and
''No Bud for Bisson'' in 2003. The new album seems
light years ahead of these recordings in maturity and
musicality. Instead of a collection of funky elements,
the new tunes sound fully integrated: whole songs, not
just cool parts.
A good example is the new album's bumptious ''Strictly
Revisited,'' a re-working of a song called ''Strictly
Nightvision'' that appeared on their previous CD. The
old version was fine, but the new take is alive -
lighter and fuller at the same time. They added a
hip-hop party chant intro by saxophonist Bob Moriarty
and a wordless cooing part by Alecia Chakour, from The
Systematics. The song picks up speed and a ripping,
effects-laden guitar solo by Ron Peleg, that climaxes
como Carlos Santana. It feels like NBFB has just given
into the spirit of the groove and followed wherever it
may lead them.
Other highlights on the album are the driving ''Ted
Dancin''' (featuring fabulous vocals from Alecia
Chakour), the space funk crime spree ''Engine Block''
and ''Position X,'' with MC Exposition rapping about
trading rhymes for drinks in a bar.
