This album is the first of its kind - it features humorous versions of traditional Irish Gaelic songs. The fun is more than just funny lyrics, too: It's a classical heavy metal traditional sean-nós doo-wop electronic laugh fest. Really.

notes

This album (the title is pronounced 'class ow ron') is the first of its kind - it features primarily parodies of traditional Irish Gaelic songs. The fun just begins with the funny lyrics though. The styles of music and the arrangements are wide ranging, from sean-nós (a capella) traditional singing to bluegrass, classical, electronic, and even heavy metal! Together with the Irish language songs (lyrics and translations are included for most songs), there are a few instrumentals (a fugue for harpsichord, an electronic composition, etc.) and one crazy song in English (with full orchestra!). And oh, have you ever heard "Ghost Riders in the Sky" in Irish?

Séamas Ó Neachtain (Shame us, oh nyak tun), a.k.a. Jim Norton, is the author of the bilingual book of poetry, An File ar Buile (Poems from America), and a teacher of the Irish language at the Gerry Tobin Irish Language school. He has a Masters degree in classical composition, has published a book of classical music for the electric bass, and has played on albums by Brian De Vale and Thom Hoffman. Séamas plays numerous acoustic, electric, sampled and synthesized instruments on this album, and does all the vocals. This is his first solo album.

  • Iontach deas ar fad!
    author: Nikki Ragsdale

Is léir go bhfuil eolas leathan ag Séamas ar cúrsaí amhránaíochta na hÉireann, nó go raibh sé in ann scigaithris chliste agus chleasach mar seo a dhéanamh, bail ó Dia air. Fear mór na Gaeilge atá ann, leoga! An-éacht atá déanta aige, agus molaim é. Bím ag baint taitneamh as a chuid ceoil, agus molaim an DD seo do aon duine a bhfuil fonn gáire air nó uirthi.

  • Only the brain of "a mad poet" could create such fun!
    author: Pam Tangredi

As clever as An File ar Buile is, Seamas O'Neactain brings his talent for a turn of phrase to a new high with Cleas Amhran. Using humor and many musical styles, he shows how the Irish language has always truly been a living language.
