The recording band is Nealiette, the lead vocalist and composer is Richmond, VA's premier female jazz vocalist, Terri Simpson. A '97 graduate of VCU's acclaimed school of jazz and a member of a number of local jazz groups, Terri has at least two weekly gigs in Richmond and numerous special engagements in surrounding regions.
Stop in Bottoms Up Pizza on Dock Street in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom any Sunday evening and catch her with the Butterbean Jazz Quartet, a gig with a 15 year history. Or with a trio Friday night's at The Hard Shell where she's been a regular since '97. This is in addition to a busy music teaching schedule.
Terri hand picked Nealiette members for this CD, and they simply are some of Virginia's finest.
Children of the Sky represents a different style, a more creative and personal side of Terri's music, original rhythm and blues/soul songs written over a period of years in anticipation of this project.

Simpson’s serene vocals are the perfect compliment
author: Celebrity Cafe
“Children Of The Sky,” from Nealiette, is an R & B album guaranteed to caress listeners’ souls and transport them to a tranquil place of utter serenity. Lead vocalist/composer Terri Simpson is Richmond, Virginia’s premier jazz vocalist and is a graduate of VCU’s school of jazz. Admirers of the genre can hear Simpson at her recurrent gigs and engagements at Richmond’s Bottoms Up Pizza in Shockoe Bottom on any given Sunday. Her luminescent and relaxing voice will calm listeners and soothe them in all the right places.
On “Take Me Over” Simpson expounds about how her beloved seems to stun her with his affection, as light drumming and smooth melodies accompany the lyrics. “Oh, yeah. Take me over and over. Take me over and over. Just a touch of heaven. Just a moment in paradise…And you take me over and over.”
“Keep On” begins with supple percussion and what sounds like saxophone work, as Simpson sings about finding oneself all in good time. “Keep hangin’ on to how it used to be. You’ll find no other reason to go on. Remember who you are and you’ll go far baby. You’ll never know just how much it means to finally realize just who you are. Till you learn to let it go. You’ll never know. Keep movin’…No need to ask for reasons why.” This track is an empowering one. Simpson is telling listeners to continue to look inside themselves until they find their uniqueness.
“On My Mind” has breezy guitar and percussion, as Simpson goes on about how she cannot seem to detach a certain somebody from her thoughts. “Everywhere I go you’re always on my mind. And everything I do you’re always on my mind…Wherever you may be you’ll still be on my mind. On the street yesterday, I saw a man who looked like you. I couldn’t believe my eyes…Same gentle eyes just like you, he had your familiar stride. My heart stopped for just one minute, I had to catch my breath and then I tried to call your name only to realize your presence was all in my head. I just can’t get away. Everywhere I go you’re always on my mind. And everything I do you’re always on my mind.” It seems Simpson is constantly reminded of this man and is so wrapped up in him that she has to explain her feelings in a cool collected rhythm.
Nealiette’s “Children Of The Sky” is an album listeners can turn on after a long day and chill to. Simpson’s serene vocals are the perfect compliment to the calm instrumentation of the album and showcases her talent at bringing smooth jazz fused with R & B to the masses.

Really nice vibe...
author: SoulBrother.com
7 Piece band from Richmond Virginia fronted by the female vocals of Terri Simpson. This jazzy soul EP has a really nice vibe and a good 'live' sound The harmonic mid tempo 'Take Me Over' and jazzy soul floater 'On My Mind' are contrasted by the horn led funky mid tempo dancer 'Keep On' which you could have imagined the BNH doing in their heyday. Terri's wistful vocals are well suited to the beautiful floater 'Children Of The Sky' and the beat ballad 'When The Morning Comes' and the excellent band are allowed to let go more on the appropriately named [bonus track The Jam].
