notes

Neil Harpe is based in Annapolis, Maryland. He's been playing fingerstyle country blues and ragtime guitar since the 1960s.

Harpe produced an album of country blues on the Adelphi Records label back in 1971. Today, he divides his time between performing acoustic blues, collecting and selling vintage guitars (primarily Stellas from the 1920 & '30s), and his "day job" as a painter/printmaker.

Musical influences include Charley Patton, John Hurt, Willie McTell, Memphis Minnie and Blind Blake...to mention but a few.

  • Neil Harpe

I've known Neil since I was a child. He is one of the most gifted people I have ever come in contact with. His music is sensational, and I also have one of his paintings which we commissioned hanging in our living room. I can't say enough good things about his talent. Great CD!

  • I didn't like it, I just loved it !
    author: The Kicking Mule

This CD is just a must ! If you don't have it, so get it. The only problem is, I like to bike and listen, so perhaps I'm not a good cyclist, but a good listener, so listen to this or get killed ? My decision is easy; I listen !!!

I was looking for an old Martin guitar and I came across Mr. Harpe's website with his impressive collection of guitars, art work, and guitar licks. I wanted to hear more so I bought his cd. I am impressed with the CD and Mr. Sharpe's abilities. And, the CD Baby delivery--amazingly fast, fun and funny, too! Great service CD BABY! Regards, Bob Orso

  • Great song selection, great guitar picking, great singing!
    author: Stephen Williams

This CD is GREAT!!! I don't give out accolades like this lightly but I really love this CD. All the titles are pre WWII country blues gems, and not just the usual over played standards that everyone knows. Neil Harpes playing sounds great on his Stella six and twelve strings as well as his voice which is natural and unique without that forced authenticity that some blues singers have. This guy is on the same level as Paul Geremia, Steve James, Roy Bookbinder et. al.

  • one of the best country-blues CD ever !
    author: Antoine Payen

I heard about Neil Harpe when searching for informations on the web about Stella Guitars. The link drove me to CDBaby and I purchased the CD. This is 100% of true country-blues, great guitar playing and great singing, very respectful of the style and at the same time very personnally inspired. All titles are top level, there's nothing to by-pass ! Great ...
