Album Notes

"Cold Fish" is a unique, exciting, and very listenable mixture of jazz, folk, modern acoutic, and swing. The "Cold Fish" CD is a classic energetic live recording showcasing the early compositions of Neil Jacobs, featuring John Douglas on bass, John Kirk on tenor sax, Neil Jacobs on 12-string guitar, and John Riess on piano, "Cold Fish" documents one night's magical perfomance.

In the early 80's, Neil Jacobs became fascinated with music of Weather Report, Oregon, and Pat Metheney. He formed the eclectic ensemble, "Cold Fish", and began to develop compositions perhaps best described as acoustic "folk-jazz". "Cold Fish" was especially acclaimed for its powerful and rhythmic music achieved without the use of drums. "Cold Fish" toured throughout the U.S. opening for such diverse acts as Spyro Gyra, Flora Purim, Airto, Janis Ian, Weather Report, Southside Johnny, David Bromberg, Alan Holdsworth and Jeff Lorber - often to standing ovations. A change in the musical climate forced the group to disband. This recording remains.
