December Songs by Nellie Eve has a gentle sonic quietness
author: Jeff Weaver
December Songs by Nellie Eve has a gentle sonic quietness juxtaposed by themes of alienation, loneliness, lost love and tenderness. Nellie Eve’s voice is soft and clear, rough and bold, sexy and sweet all at the same time. The songs, which cover the universal emotions of love, longing and anger, come from Nellie Eve’s unique personal experiences.
The performances are sincere and honest, with a pure and rare beauty. The album opens with Daisy, Seth and Me - an affectionate look at friendship. The next song, A/V Club, deals with intense isolation, denial and conformity. Off Triple A is tender and sweet with it’s banjo arpeggios. Rock and Roll Boys is an acoustic version of the song from Accepting Infinity that holds up well here. Precious is a beautiful observation of life from several perspectives. Fast Train with it’s CD tracks/Lover analogy works well with its story of moving too fast into a romantic relationship. The album ends with Lavender, a remembrance of love lost.
Nellie Eve’s December Songs is a sincere, unpolished gem in the ocean of overhyped and overproduced music that is available today.
