Nellie Eve - Twice Daily Until Spring These pretty love and loss songs are presented here with an unpolished delivery which brings an air of intimacy to them. Nellie Eve’s voice is in fine form, soft and smooth with a confident delivery. The simple guitar and vocal recordings are all that is really needed for these beautiful songs. Love goes off to war in “Olie the Killer”. Not knowing if her soldier will ever return, she is exasperated fearing the hollow emptiness that will come with his leaving. “Kick and go Clean” - One of my favorites with its dark foreboding minor chords and reverberating atmosphere. Nellie coasts through and then out of a doomed love affair while observing the physical world surrounding the situation. Wondering if her love will come back to her or leave her for someone new, she waits for an answer in “Oden”. “Listening to Records” is a very melodic song about a lazy day listening to music with a lover and enjoying the moment. “Uptown” brings us observations of a troubled urban landscape with chord changes reminiscent of some early Jefferson Airplane tunes. The matter of fact way that “Birthday Card” is written suggest perhaps the inspiration for this number came from an actual correspondence marking the passing of another year. Nellie sings it with a sad indifference in her voice. “Twice Daily Until Spring” provides an enjoyable and emotional listening experience for any time of the year. Read more...
