Album Notes

NEON VENUS

Neon Venus is Puerto Rican born and raised lead singer Lissette Salazar Napoleoni and lead guitarist/singer Peter Valentino--together creating a mix of bilingual dance/rock music with Anglo and Latin sounds.

In 2006, MTV Español (USA) aired Neon Venus’ latest video for their song “Irresistible.” The video features underwater singing sequences and was shot for one of the singles from their newest CD release also entitled “Irresistible”(2006). The new record is a bilingual double CD, one containing songs mostly in English, and the other with songs mostly in Spanish.

In the spring of 2005, MTV Español aired Neon Venus’ self-directed rockumentary based on their 2004 tour of Europe including cities in Spain, Italy, Turkey, Egypt and the Sinai. Four of Neon Venus’ music videos (Beso a Beso, Step Into My Island, Volveremos and Irresistible) have aired on MTV Español, VHUno (Latin VH1- USA) and/or MTV Puerto Rico. “Beso a Beso” first aired on MTV Español in 2003 and the network has aired their videos every year since.

The band has two previous CDs, “Slip Into Rhythm/Cae En El Ritmo” (2002) and “The Birth of Neon Venus” (1999).

Neon Venus songs can be found in 7 compilations including 3 for top national Latin rock magazine Boom! with accompanying articles such as "The Best of 2004” and The Best Alternative Latin Rock coming out of Puerto Rico (2003). Other compilations include: Atta Girl Records CD
benefiting tsunami victims, Gilda’s Club (Gilda Radner) CD
benefiting cancer victims, Latin high tech magazine “Users” CD distributed to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Venezuela and the US., and one for “Female Musician”, an organization educating female musicians.

The band was born out of the NYC club circuit and the worldwide web in 1997and is currently based in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. They perform live shows at clubs, city events and colleges. For some of these shows, they travel with Nestor Salazar, a hot Latin percussionist, who also plays on their CDs. Neon Venus is currently preparing to shoot their second documentary.

ABOUT NEON VENUS 1ST CD-- The Birth of Neon Venus:

If you are are fond of bands that deliver a message through fun rhythms and lyrics (such as the Talking Heads), this is the record for you.

On stage, their Puerto Rican lead singer, Lissette Napoleoni, exudes an aura of sensuous power and playfulness. She is solidly backed up by Peter Velentine, on guitar and vocals, and Nestor on percussion.

The music on the CD ranges from strong, deep rock, to upbeat dance grooves, to sweet melodic psychedelia.

With a style thoroughly their own, the band mixes influences from the last four decades; the message of peace and love from the 60's, fun disco beats from the 70's, and new wave/alternative sounds from the 80's, then blends in live drums and Latin percussion loops from the 90's.

Another original component of this band is the vocal blend created by the frequent trading of ranges between the female and male voices.

With the help of new digital technologies, Neon Venus pulls off a live show as powerful as their record.
