Neshama Carlebach, one of the leading superstars in Jewish Entertainment, is continuing the legacy established by her father Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. His deep spirituality and his love of all humanity, filled every song he wrote and touched every person he encountered as he changed the face of Jewish music.
Like her father, Neshama’s talent and charisma captivate and endear her to people of all ages and backgrounds as she performs in cities all over the world. Together with producer/pianist David Morgan and her incredible band, she continues to both deeply move and entertain as she sings her father’s incomparable melodies, and inspiring original compositions. An event with Neshama will uplift you and bring you the gift of songs that are danceable, singable, and unforgettable.
Neshama’s sixth CD, One and One, consists of all original music with English lyrics. The title track, One and One, showcases the Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir.
In Her Own Words
“From the moment I was old enough to know I was alive, I knew I wanted to perform. I trained as a singer and actor from when I was five years old, and began singing with my father, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, of blessed memory, when I was fifteen. Never in my lifetime did I imagine that I was developing the strength, knowledge and skill to follow in his footsteps.
I began my singing career three weeks after I lost my father, my best friend. At first I felt compelled to sing, knowing in my heart he would have wanted me to. The beginning was a time of great sorrow, as I traveled around the world singing for thousands of people, all of us unable to accept the fact that we would never again be in his holy presence.
In 1996 I met my producer, pianist David Morgan. He changed the way I listened to the music all around me as we began to arrange my father’s songs together and to collaborate. When I started to compose I discovered that by singing I was not only continuing in my father’s way but was accomplishing my own life’s work as well. The high moments on stage with David and my band give me the deepest inspiration.
My father always said that when we sing, it’s like we’re praying twice. When I am on stage I experience prayer in the deepest sense. In this crazy world, sadly enough, people often are too afraid to feel. We too terrified to open our souls to our deepest prayers, yet so broken at all we are missing inside. Somehow, when we don’t have the words to express all that we need, music says it for us. Music can somehow break our hearts and allow us to feel so whole all at the same time. This miracle is what I feel when I sing. I thank G-d every moment of my life that I have the honor of praying and singing with the people I meet all over the world. I thank you all for your love and support and for giving me the chance to live my dreams. May we all have the courage to keep singing.”

One and One: Neshama\'s Best CD
author: Michael Weiss
This is truly an amazing CD. I had been listening to her CD Soul for about 7 years, which I also think is terrific. Soul is completely different from One and One in style and language. With One and One, I did not know what to expect, since I had only listened to her perform Middle Eastern sounding songs in Hebrew. One and One is every bit as good as Soul and perhaps better. The CD has 12 songs, of which I would say at least 9 are fantastic and could easily become hits in the US if Neshama was more well known in mainstream America. A few songs are pop, while a couple of others are rock, while a couple of others are jazz, one song is almost hip hop/pop while there are also a couple of ballads. Neshama\'s voice is fantastic and her vocal range is amazing. I should also mention that her band is terrific.
Perhaps even more amazing is that Neshama (I think) is an observant Jew. I am sure she must get some criticism within her community since she sings these types of songs and to mixed crowds. I actually think that it is so cool that an observant Jew can sing these types of songs and to mixed crowds. She obviously can reach out to various types of people with her music. I truly believe that Neshama has an incredible opportunity with this CD to become a big fish in a big pond, if that is what she wants. She has an opportunity to connect with so many people that she has not connected with before. These days, there are very few Jewish pop/rock stars in the US, or at least very few that appeal to the younger generation. With CDs like One and One, Neshama has the opportunity to make listening to music a more meaningful experience for the younger Jewish crowd.

One and One

This is Neshama's latest, and it is in English. A plus for me in a sense, because I can understand every word! (However, I also love every song that Neshama sings, in whatever language.) Every song is sung with her whole neshama, her whole spirit, and I eagerly await anything new that this artist records.
