Album Notes

“Amateur”, the first solo album by bassist/producer David Nesselhauf, is an homage to the German "Big Apple", his hometown of Hamburg, Germany, where all kinds of things are melting, decaying and finally giving live to new organic material.

As a physician, David is used to analyzing, looking and listening carefully to all that is around him, and is not afraid to put his fingers into dark places to find the truth! For scientists, the dirt and noise of a port city like Hamburg is always worth collecting, even if it's done with a microphone and a tape deck.

Being a bass player as well, David then laid his precious acoustic artifacts on the compost pile of his home studio, artfully supported by deep bass lines and big beats. The warmth of vintage drum grooves, analog effects, double-bass/electric-bass playing and special guest musicians propels the bacterial inflammation of the material even more! To guarantee the distinctiveness of this experiment and to give the music a visual quality, the songs are inspired by unique tales that have evolved from storyboard to full animation, which will be completed by the end of 2008.

As a member of the underground music scene of Hamburg, David has managed to lay down bass lines for dozens of recording sessions and has played hundreds of live venues large and small, including recording and live performances with artists like international jazz giant Lew Soloff and national hip-hop Shootingstar Jim Pansen.
