Album Notes

Netoband has been playing and recording since 1995, with musical associations long before that. The band is Jose Neto, guitar, Frank Martin, keys, Gary Brown, bass, Cafe on percussion, and Celso Alberti on drums. 7th Wave-The Lucky One is their fourth release.

The Netoband has played at Ronnie Scott's in London since 1994, and in 2004 they will be there late November-early December.

Jose Neto has been touring with Steve Winwood in support of Winwood's latest recording, "About Time". The album features three of Neto's tunes with lyrics and vocals provided by Mr. Winwood, including "Domingo", featured on "7th Wave".

Playing songs composed by Jose Neto, the NETOBAND takes you for a musical ride of influences from Brazilian rhythms to the flashing, rippling sounds of Jimi Hendrix and beyond. Delightful music interplay is the trademark of the Netoband, and is evident on this cd.

"7th Wave-The Lucky One" was recorded live at Ronnie Scott's as well as acoustic guitar tracks recorded in California and band tracks from Fantasy Studios in Berekley.

Jose Neto is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and studied classical guitar before discovering the joys of jazz and rock, and today fuses the styles for a unique guitar sound capable of going from the sublime beauty of nylon strings to powerful crashing power chords in a few notes. He is currently working on a new album with Steve Winwood of Traffic fame which should be released in 2003. Jose has played with Harry Belafonte for more than 20 years, and will be playing with Harry in Europe in March. Neto is the guitarist on the latest Flora Purim album, "Naciamento" has also played with Airto Morieta, Tania Maria, Narada Michael Walden, and many others, and currently is doing recording sessions as well as club gigs to support the 7th Wave cd.

Celso Alberti comes from the south of Brazil, and his drumming propels NETOBAND into cascading rhythmic waves with a feel of dynamics that few drummers can ever realize. He also runs MoonDog Studios in Alameda, CA., and has produced cds and recording sessions of local and international musicians.

Frank Martin is known thruout the Bay Area as one of the freshest and best keyboardists around. His unique stylings and sounds coaxed from the cold chips of synthesizers combine with Jose's guitar to provide a marvelous sense of melody and rhythm that is the mark of the NETOBAND sound. He is constantly recording and performing with a wide range of musical styles.

Gary Brown's bass playing puts NETOBAND in a class of their own. He is also a member of Airto and Flora Purim's touring group. His rhythmic mastery combines with the drumming of Celso to provide a solid, delightful base for the band's twists and turns. His 5 and 6 string basses provide a framework that the other musicians latch onto thru audio osmosis, and the result is sheer delight. He can be found on recordings by Airto, Flora Purim and many others.

REVIEWS

Absolutely incredible CD!
author: Corey Simmons
This is the first Netoband CD I've heard, but since listening to it I bought two more and I've loved every one of them. This is an incredibly talented group of musicians. If you're tired of the canned music being mass produced for mindless teenyboppers and are looking for truly talented musicians to listen to, check this album out.
