ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
(Ad'a-ven): verb: The natural blending of somewhat unconventional instruments and musical styles (rock and roll, country, bluegrass, hip hop, funk, crazy) to create fun, energetic, and original good time music--mostly hit songs.

noun: An ever-evolving Sacramento based band formed in 2001 by singer and songwriter/"long time scenester," Brian Ballentine and drummer/producer, Troy Kimura (aka sober), both of who had previously played together in The Little Lost Monkeys. Mick Stevenson, who also played in Brian Ballentine and Friends, brought his southern fried grits to the table when he showed up with his banjo, guitars, and mandolin and joined in 2002. Fiddle player Nikelle Gessner of Humboldt's Zombie Core Allegiance, was adopted in 2003, after living in Ireland for a spell while soaking up the music and culture. Rachel Fowler's vocal presence became a regular affair in early 2004, spicing things up with her feminine flair and soul. Finally, Rodg, the most recent addition, became part of the group in the summer of 2004 to enhance the low end with his own style and finesse; currently playing with Stevenson in the metal band Sans Sobriety.

origin: A Nevada ghostown, a backwards state, Brian's first dog.

Great stuff from Sacto faves
NB's best yet. Rollicking, fun, esp. Get Outta Town, 'Creek and Trainwreck. If you're looking for a snapshot of NorCal alt/folk/whatever scene c. 2005, this is a good one.

A New & Improved, Polished, Nevada Backwards!
This album definitely shows Nevada Backwards' growth as a band. The sound is richer, the vocals far more polished, and the overall song-structure is improved. It's a great album to stick in the player and let it run all the way through. There's enough variation in the tracks that you won't get bored and just when you think they're mellowing out, they kick it up a few notches for some good ol' classic Nevada Backwards-soundin' fun. These boys know when to get serious about the music, yet they keep the energy going on this album, just like they ALWAYS do when performing live.
